MUSIC
Everybody can agree that music can effect our emotions and how we feel at any given moment. It can either enhance those feelings, or change how we feel. It matters what we play and when we play it. Exercise is no different. Whether it is playing sports or working out, we are stressing ourselves out. Our focus is fixated on the work we are putting in. Music seems to become an outlet that relocates that focus to something more productive. The stress from exercise can lead to negative thinking, but music is the distraction. Imagine listening to your favorite song while doing anything like studying or cleaning. Without realizing it, we get into a flow and it is over because our focus is not on the difficult task, but the simple rhythm or lyrics of the music. The point of a study done on music in the exercise domain was to see when people select music to listen to when exercising, if it would reduce the effects of acute stress due to an increase in motivation and enjoyment. The study performed both moderate and intense physical activity trials with a music and no music group to discover if music helps, and it resulted in positive findings. During the moderate exercises, those listening to music performed better than those without music. even during the intense exercise trials, music helped to improve participation and form for the intense exercises (4).

Do you work out with a friend?
Studies have shown that working out with
a partner, or even being around active people can have an impact on motivation to work out and be physically active. A specific study on undergraduate college student in Greek affiliated sororities and fraternities stated that "feeling socially accepted" played a large role and increased their physical activity participation (Turek, et al, 2017).
A study on mentally ill patients showed that the highest contributing factor to their motivation were social factors. This motivation sparked conversation, and friendship among older mental patients (2).
